Aromatherapy X Essential Oils

Aromatherapy X Essential Oils
Aromatherapy comes from the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefits to boost your mood and enhance wellbeing. Essential oils can have a positive impact on your health. At Aroma & Flora we trust the power of essential oils to make you feel good through a natural way. Back in time I worked in a wine bar, I experienced burnouts due to the stressful environment. That's when I introduced essential oils to my self-care routine, I knew it would help me ease my stress.

Why have we decide to use essential oils in our candles?

I was brought up in a culture where plants are used to heal illnesses, protect the house against bad energies and to make you feel good. My nan always used plants to heal illnesses and there was always a tea or a herbal paste for whatever issue we had. That's how I knew it would be a good idea to use aromatherapy and make myself feel good. Essential oils are plant extracts that work in your system if inhaled or absorbed through the skin. The only requirement is: they need to be diluted.

How do they work?

When inhaled, the essential oil molecules travel through the olfactory receptors and send signals to the brain, specifically the limbic system, which is responsible for emotions, behaviour and memories. This interaction can influence your mood, reduce stress, evoke memories and enhance wellbeing. Essential oil can interact with the body chemistry at cellular levels influencing emotional regulation, cognitive functions and physiological effects.

Essential oils and what they're for:

There are many types of essential oils for different functions. I listed a couple I find more accessible and it's usage.

  • Lavender: support brain functions promoting relaxation, it has anti-inflammatory properties to relive stress and gift you with a restful sleep.

  • Clary Sage: is a great hormone balancing and is valued as a natural addition to self-care practices for it’s soothing properties.

  • Bergamot: relieve stress, anxiety, reduce inflammations and reenergise.

  • Cinnamon: inviting and comforting aroma to promote sense of calm. Can help uplift and increase feelings of joy creating a positive atmosphere.

  • Lemon: commonly used on skin products to reduce dark points and prevent aging, can still be used on aromatherapy to improve mood and cognitive functions.

  • Orange: brings a bright, vibrant sensation to any environment, promoting balance and comfort.

  • Ylang - Ylang: delivers a peaceful atmosphere conducive to relaxation, used to create a calming environment.

  • Jasmine: essential oil is a natural aphrodisiac, great to overcome emotional stress and promotes a calming effect.

  • Rosemary: stimulate the mind, improving focus and mental clarity.

The options and benefits and the ways to use aromatherapy are infinite. For a very long time, plants have been used by humans to evoke sensations and ease stress. A self-care routine is essential to keep harmony and balance in this crazy life we live, be vigilante to your mind and look after yourself.
